SUMMARY:Virtual Life Skills 6 Week Programme
DESCRIPTION:Spinal Injuries Ireland in partnership with our good friends from Aware are delighted to be able to facilitate a fantastic 6-week Life Skills Programme. \nIt will take place every Tuesday evening between 1st February and 8th March inclusive from 7pm to 8.30pm. \nThere is a signup fee of €30 and a discounted rate of €10 if you are a student\, unemployed\, a senior citizen or have a medical card.  All fees are fully refundable on completion of the course. \n  \nBased on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)\, the Life Skills programme is designed to help people learn more about how we think and how this can influence our actions in helpful or unhelpful ways.  It is  delivered over the course of six weeks in 90-minute sessions. With the help of a series of easy-to-follow worksheets and expert guidance from your trained facilitator at each session\, you can learn how to better manage the stress of everyday life\, recognise and manage unhelpful thoughts\, learn new ways of thinking and ultimately begin the journey to a healthier and more confident life. \nTailored exclusively for SII service users and family members\, this fantastic programme will be delivered by SII service user\, Ciaran Allen. \nThis Life Skills programme has been independently evaluated by Aware and shown to deliver proven results. DESCRIPTION:This is Part 3 of a three part course facilitated by Dirk Van de Merwe. \nThis course will help women develop easy-to-use techniques such as awareness\, assertiveness\, and verbal skills in combination with safety strategies and avoidance techniques to help prevent\, resist\, and escape dangerous scenarios. \nThis course will be open to maximum of 10-12 women (aged 18 years up). These workshops will have a discussion format where participants can discuss topics in an open and confidential manner with the group.  \nTopics included:  \n\nWhat is self-defence \nWhat is abuse and different forms of abuse \nWays you can protect yourself \nUnderstanding Body Language\nCan you say No and how to do so\nPromote your confidence and empower you\n\nDirk Van De Merwe is originally from South Africa and now lives and works in Ireland. He himself has a spinal cord injury and uses a manual wheelchair. Dirk worked in the South African Police force including branches such as Flying squad\, Crime Prevention Unit and undercover roles. He has a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan karate with over 30 years experience.  In 2006 he was World Karate Champion (Competed against non disabled). In 2016 he won UK sport coach of the year and UK Sports Ambassador. He is a certified Self Defence Empowerment Martial Arts Trainer (SEMAT) and is also a qualified life coach and mentor.  \n  \nRegistration is required.  Please click HERE to register.
