SUMMARY:Virtual Life Skills 6 Week Programme
DESCRIPTION:Spinal Injuries Ireland in partnership with our good friends from Aware are delighted to be able to facilitate a fantastic 6-week Life Skills Programme. \nIt will take place every Tuesday evening between 1st February and 8th March inclusive from 7pm to 8.30pm. \nThere is a signup fee of €30 and a discounted rate of €10 if you are a student\, unemployed\, a senior citizen or have a medical card.  All fees are fully refundable on completion of the course. \n  \nBased on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)\, the Life Skills programme is designed to help people learn more about how we think and how this can influence our actions in helpful or unhelpful ways.  It is  delivered over the course of six weeks in 90-minute sessions. With the help of a series of easy-to-follow worksheets and expert guidance from your trained facilitator at each session\, you can learn how to better manage the stress of everyday life\, recognise and manage unhelpful thoughts\, learn new ways of thinking and ultimately begin the journey to a healthier and more confident life. \nTailored exclusively for SII service users and family members\, this fantastic programme will be delivered by SII service user\, Ciaran Allen. \nThis Life Skills programme has been independently evaluated by Aware and shown to deliver proven results. DESCRIPTION:This is Week 2 of a series of talks on Stress Management for family members\, friends and carers of people with a spinal cord injury.  The series runs for 7 weeks and you are free to attend all seven or just the ones that suit you.  Each talk is stand alone but people will benefit from doing the entire course. \nTalk 2 – Why do I think and respond to stress differently than my colleagues? \n\nexplore how we perceive things and how this effects how we behave even as a carer\nbegin to put a microscope on our inner world and challenge the four sub-personalities that lead into stress\n\nCRITIC – VICTIM – PERFECTIONIST – WORRIER \nWhy do I keep repeating patterns that no longer work for me? \n\nSometimes these are only mal adaptive coping techniques to manage early developmental stages.  When these are triggered in our present world all memories around this theme are activated and we react as if the past is the present with the same mal adaptive coping technique\nIdentifying is the first stage in dealing with these patterns and then we will learn how to stand back and do things differently.  Working with the template of challenging our automatic thought patterns.\n\nClick HERE to register

DESCRIPTION:This is Week 4 of a series of talks on Stress Management for family members\, friends and carers of people with a spinal cord injury.  The series runs for 7 weeks and you are free to attend all seven or just the ones that suit you.  Each talk is stand alone but people will benefit from doing the entire course. \nTalk 4 – How to Manage Conflict \n\nWe explore and discuss the various definitions of conflict and how it can cause us stress\nWe will explore the different negotiating styles that are possible in managing conflict and discuss when they are appropriate and helpful\nAre you a good listener or do you feel often that you are listened to or not heard?  How do you manage it?  We will explore what good listening skills are and how to encourage them in others.\n\nClick HERE to register

SUMMARY:Vocational and Employment Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Spinal Injuries Ireland will host a Panel discussion\, which will take place online on Wednesday 15th June.  \nFiona Ryan from the National Rehabilitation Hospital will be speaking about the Vocational Programme\, which is an inter-agency programme between the vocational OT in the NRH and Spinal Injuries Ireland Association.  The aim of the programme is to bridge the gap between hospital and community. When the person is discharged from the hospital the Community Outreach Officer in their region follows up to assist and support the person in instigating their vocational plans post discharge.  The Community Outreach Officer and Vocational OT regularly meet to monitor each person’s progress and provide additional vocational support as necessary. \nRachael Mulligan from the Irish Wheelchair Association will be speaking about the Abilities Programme\, which is a job seeking skills and employability programme whereby participants receive holistic\, person-centred coaching from their two dedicated job coaches allowing them to enhance their skillsets\, become independent job seekers\, and ultimately finding a meaningful role. This service is open to anyone over the age of 18 with a physical disability (not solely wheelchair users) who is looking to enhance their employability and find a fulfilling career. \nHelen Forster from the Local Employment Services will be speaking about the services they provide\, and in doing so\, supporting a client-centered employment service to job seekers and those distanced from the workforce\, offering a wide range of employment supports and working with the employers to enhance employment opportunities. \nLooking forward to seeing you then! \n  \nRegister HERE
