SII CEO, Fiona Bolger takes on Paris2Nice

This race is no easy task and it will see Fiona cycle 746km in 6 days from 15th September – 20th September. Fiona has been training hard since March this year to build up the strength and stamina to compete in this race. Over the last few weeks she has completed a number of 100km cycles including the Meath Heritage Cycle – a feat she would not have considered this time last year!
“Up to March 2018, I had never owned or cycled a road bike. In fact, if I am honest I had not cycled since I was 12 years old, and that’s a long time ago believe me! I have taken on this challenge with two other members of David Lloyd Riverview however I am the real rookie!”
As part of this cycle, Fiona has recruited Jackie Carroll from Harry’s Bikes and Apres Match’s Risteard Cooper who will take on Paris2Nice as part of the Spinal Injuries Ireland team. They are aiming to raise €40,000 for Spinal Injuries Ireland and with a month to go they are almost half way there.
Fiona added: “In 2014 I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to work with people who had sustained a life changing spinal cord injury (SCI) and their families when I became the Chief Executive of SII. A SCI is described by the World Health Organisation as one of the most devastating injuries that a person can sustain & three people sustain a SCI in Ireland every week. I see first hand the positive impact of the supports & services that Spinal Injuries Ireland provide. It will come as no surprise to hear that public services for people with disability are very scarce around the country and many people rely on SII to provide these services.

We'd love to hear from you to see how we can help
