A Summer Travel Journal

Being creative can be a spontaneous thing. It doesn’t have to be a big 2 hour session. It can be 5 minutes with a cuppa.

When I travel I pack a small amount of materials so I have a mobile studio. It’s a mini version of the Spinal Art pack. I bring an A5 journal and record what I see, gather and notice. I use collage, sketching and watercolour paint. I write – I am not a writer but I like using words to form pictures and record memories. If I am waiting on a friend or have a few moments to myself in the morning I try to capture something creative in my little book – a doodle with a biro. Sometimes these quick scruffy sketches become an idea for a bigger piece or sometimes they don’t.

Why not give it a try – take photos on your phone to sketch later. Make collages with the flyers you often pick up from places you have visited. This quick daily practice can keep you connected to your creative practice.

We'd love to hear from you to see how we can help
