This is Part 3 of a three part course facilitated by Dirk Van de Merwe.
This course will help women develop easy-to-use techniques such as awareness, assertiveness, and verbal skills in combination with safety strategies and avoidance techniques to help prevent, resist, and escape dangerous scenarios.
This course will be open to maximum of 10-12 women (aged 18 years up). These workshops will have a discussion format where participants can discuss topics in an open and confidential manner with the group.
Topics included:
Dirk Van De Merwe is originally from South Africa and now lives and works in Ireland. He himself has a spinal cord injury and uses a manual wheelchair. Dirk worked in the South African Police force including branches such as Flying squad, Crime Prevention Unit and undercover roles. He has a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan karate with over 30 years experience. In 2006 he was World Karate Champion (Competed against non disabled). In 2016 he won UK sport coach of the year and UK Sports Ambassador. He is a certified Self Defence Empowerment Martial Arts Trainer (SEMAT) and is also a qualified life coach and mentor.
